Today’s match of M2 against Oxford firsts didn’t go very well. As first, second, third, and fourth seed we had correspondingly Nikhil, Charlie, Nedialko, and Tom Edden. Our double pairs were Nikhil/Ned, Charlie/Dom. The feature started with 2 singles and 1 double. Nedialko and Nikhil faced Oxfords captain Salim and their third seed. After a slow start and not very confident serving they were down 1-3 in the first set, but managed to fight to turn it around to 6-5 in which moment Oxford’s pair had a very strong/lucky service game and brought the set to a tiebreak which unfortunately Ned and Nikhil didn’t manage to take. The quality of serving improved in the second set and there were good moments but overall we still weren’t stable enough when serving so lost the second one 2-6. Charlie and Tom both had matches that seemed closer then the result actually shows but unfortunately lost both of them 1-6 1-6. In the second round again we didn’t manage to take a win. Charlie and Domenic played solid in the double but lost in a tough 4-6, 4-6. Probably the closest match was Nikhil’s in which he lost 5-7,5-7 to Oxfords first seed in a match in which the tennis was of very high quality. Nedialko didn’t manage to play at a good enough level, and although there were moments in the second set in which it seemed like the game could be turned around he lost 0-6, 3-6. These matches formed the disappointing overall 0-12 score. There are still plenty of positives that could be taken from the performance as we were definitely left with the feeling of deserving better. We should focus on more match practice to improve in the next match, and learning our lessons from this one we will be ready to challenge our next opponents.
