Cambridge grind out win against Nottingham
The tennis Blues defeated Nottingham 8-4 away in a top of the table clash to remain top of their BUCS division.
At no. 1 doubles, captain Tim Prossor and Neil Cordon enjoyed a comfortable 6-1, 6-2 victory. At no. 2 doubles, Sam Ashcroft and Gerald Wu paid the price for not converting their break point chances to lose 5-7, 6-1, 2-10.
At no. 1 singles, Prossor did not play the crucial points well enough and had two break points at 4-4 in the second set. He could not convert and lost 7-6, 4-6, 7-10. Cordon easily swept aside a former Sri Lankan Davis Cup player in a convincing 6–1, 6–1 win.
At no. 3 singles, Ashcroft strolled easily to a routine 6–2, 6–1 win. Wu grinded out a hard-fought 6-4, 6–7, 10-6 win to seal the tie for Cambridge. The Blues next play LSE at home.
