Match Report

The sun was out for the first Blues match on grass, against their benchmarks, the Old Blues.

First was the round of singles. Tim Prossor played a stunning match at 1, beating the semi-professional Neil Corden in a tight match, 7-6(5), 4-6, 10-8. At 2 Sam Asscroft Smashed his way to a  6-4, 6-1 victory against John Western – ex Blues Captain. Gerald Wu (Captain) at 3 struggled initially with the one-shot tennis of Greg Caterer but managed to pull out a win for the team, 1-6, 6-3, 10-4. Alex Cole had a comfortable match, beating ex blues captain Nick Jenkins 6-4, 6-2. At 5, with his first match on grass, the experience of Michael Pederson was too much for Sergey Yelnik, With the Old Blues winning a match, 6-3, 6-3. Jerry Ganendra subbed in for the old blues, beating Jack Long-Martinez 6-0, 6-1. The Current Blues lead 4-2 after the first round.

Next, the Doubles: Tim and Sam won all three matches comfortably, continuing their unbeaten streak 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. Cambridge’s second pair of Gerald and Jack played a tidy match, winning 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4. Alex Cole and Sergey Yelnik, after a tight first set, ran away with the win against Jerry Ganendra and Greg Caterer, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1.

The overall result was 7-2 to the current blues, holding the team in good stead to win back the Doherty Cup this year.
