Today the Women’s Blues Team travelled to the University of Kent for their third BUCS match of the season. Thanks to Jenni’s journey planning, the team arrived at the courts with two minutes until the start time. We were given a generous 3 minute warm up from the opposition before the matches began. For the first time, Monika and Aliyah paired up to take on the Kent no. 1 and 4 players in the doubles. The duo got off to a good start with a 3-0 lead and it was not long before they claimed the set. The second did not come quite so easily due to a duff first game which left them chasing the opponents but eventually they took the match 6-3, 6-4. Meanwhile Jenni and Jane were on court for singles. Jane was up against a hard hitting but slightly erratic opponent. This meant Jane was able to make the most of her consistency to out-rally her opponent and win the match 6-1 6-2. Jenni had a tighter match with a lot of ups and downs but she eventually came through it with a score line of 6-3 4-6 6-2.
The second round of matches started with Monika and Aliyah’s singles. Monika had a very closely fought match with extremely long rallies but unfortunately in the end she lost to her Sharapova-lookalike opponent 2-6 6-4 6-3. In the meantime Aliyah had a very tight first set winning 7-6. This rattled her opponent meaning Aliyah was able to swiftly claim the second set 6-0.
Finally Jenni and Jane, our most established doubles pair, thrashed their opponents 6-1 6-1.
