Victory for Cambridge 1sts as they beat Nottingham 1sts in the first round of the BUCS championship, 10-2!
Kadi Liis Saars and Jenni Mair played their debut match together against a solid Nottingham pair who were both active at the net and had great serves. Despite it being very difficult to intercept, Kadi and Jenni remained consistent with Jenni putting away many excellent volleys. The pair won 6-4, 6-3 without losing a single service game!
Kadi had an intense match as no. 1 against a very athletic opponent with massive serves. She won the first set and lost the second set closely. Finally, having taken Kadi most of the match (and the doubles beforehand) to figure out how to return her opponent’s serve, she claimed the third set quite convincingly with some good quality tennis. Kadi won 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
Jenni played a tough opponent, also with a big serve. Unfortunately she could not quite figure out how to convert enough points against this strong opponent and lost 6-3, 6-1.
Tanya Li went straight into the singles match at no. 3 and found the match was more of a battle against the unexpected humidity of the David Lloyd bubble. Many points were won or lost quickly as both Tanya and her opponent served well, but made many unforced errors. After a few long deuces, Tanya won 6-3, 6-2.
