|University of Leicester Women’s 1st||2||Loss|
Today the women’s tennis seconds travelled to Corby to play against Leicester University. The girls were once again triumphant, losing only one singles match overall.
We began the day with singles – unorthodox but we didn’t let that deter us. Georgina was on and off the court in a flash of the eye, completing her 6-0 6-1 victory in record speed. Anna had a shaky start, losing her first service game – never good. However, she then went on the win the next 12 games consecutively and by the end of the 6-1 6-0 victory, the opening game was all but forgotten. Leah had a similarly straightforward win, allowing her opponent only 2 games as she stormed to a 6-0 6-2 victory. Chloe had by far the toughest match as her opponent cleverly manipulated the ball around the court. Chloe put in a fine performance in the second set but unfortunately it was too little too late and her opponent came out triumphant.
Next up, the doubles. Georgina and Leah had a match quick enough to rival that of Georgina’s singles as they failed to drop a game.
Anna and Chloe had a more competitive match. Having been 5-2 up in the first set their opponents managed to claw it back to 6-5. Stakes and tempers (Anna’s in particular) were high just as we were forced to change courts at the most crucial point of the match so far. Nevertheless, the dynamic duo pulled out all the stops – and by that I mean the shots – to clinch the next game and the tie break. The start of the next set came with another change of courts as we certainly made good use of Corby Tennis Club’s facilities. Once more the pair saw themselves 5-2 up and, this time, they showed no mercy, finishing the set 6-3 to take the match 7-6 6-3.
Once more we return to Cambridge happy, victorious and eager to continue our unbeaten winning streak.
