The men’s blues team have had a poor season until now. Having not won a single match, and only one draw to Portsmouth, the team is right at the bottom of the table. The team picked, made up of Gerald (Captain), Jack Long-Martinez, Jerry Ganendra (Vice-Captain) and Sergey Yelnik had a tough task ahead of them:
Sergey and Gerald played at number one, while Jerry and Jack played together for the first time in BUCS, at number two.
With Sergey’s monstrous serves and Gerald’s solid, reliable play, the number one pair managed to clinch a comfortable 6-3, 6-3 win.
Jerry and Jack were slow to start, losing the first set 3-6, but regained control, winning the second set 6-0 and finishing with a solid match tie break, winning the match 3-6, 6-0, 10-5.
Gerald then played against the famously solid Akash Kansagra and managed to, from 1 set and 1 break down, grind out a win in a tie break 3-6, 6-4, 10-3.
Jack was the last player on court and battled it out against ex-captain Ricardo Pio Monti with accurate serves and pin-point volleys to win the match 6-7, 7-6, 10-7.
Jerry Ganendra comfortably won, having just recovered from shoulder injury. The match was against Imperial captain Enzo Bermond and the score 6-3, 6-1.
Sergey squeezed out a win at number 4, splitting sets and in the match tie break coming back from a 4-0 deficit. The score was 6-2, 5-7, 11-9.
The overall score was 12-0, absolute annihilation of the Imperial team after an 8-4 loss earlier in the season. The team hopes to use this momentum to push out of the relegation zone and gain some ground in the group.
