|Oxford University Women’s 1st||16||Win|
|University of Cambridge Women’s 1st||5||Loss|
This year the Varsity match reverted to the classic ‘Home’ and ‘Away’ format due to difficulties securing a neutral venue for the fixture. The North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club proved to be the perfect setting with 6 beautifully kept grass courts available to host both the Men’s and Women’s 1st teams. The Women’s 1st team started slowly with only 1 victory out of 6 in the first round of singles matches. This was followed by 2 rounds of doubles in which both teams played very competitive tennis. Oxford were, however, the best team on the day, clinching wins in some very tight matches to end day 1 with a 10-2 lead. With one round of singles and one round of doubles to play on Day 2 the Cambridge side made it their goal to narrow the scoreline as much as possible. Unfortunately the Oxford team were too strong with all their players performing consistently in both singles and doubles over the weekend. The Cambridge Women’s team look to improve on this performance in 2018 and hope to regain the Varsity Trophy they last won in 2014.
