The women’s tennis firsts had a surprisingly unstressful journey to Bristol to play against Bristol University. Unfortunately, the girls were not as successful as the seconds today, but there was plenty of brilliant play on court.
The day kicked off with some doubles. The double M’s (Monika and Miho) were up against a pair consisting of someone very similar to our own, and despite having some rapid and dynamic points, lost 4-6 4-6. However the double J’s (Jenni and Jane), overpowered their opponents with some great aces and volleys by a score of 6-4 4-6 10-8. Then came the singles. First on were Monika and Jane. Monika, with 120%of concentration and footwork, thrashed her counterpart by an epic score of 6-2 6-4. Jane who was battling out on the court next to Monika, produced some excellent angle shots, down the line winners and aces, however her opponent came on top, ending with a score of 3-6 2-6. Next on court were Miho and Jenni. Although producing some aces, Miho’s inconsistency began to peer through, finishing with a score of 4-6 0-6. The match of the day was probably Jenni. Although losing 1-6 7-5 4-10, the match consisted of amazingly long rallies and smashing winners. Despite having a tough day, the girls played some great tennis.
